Great news! We have an army of chipmunks slaving away 24 hours a day on the Xerox photocopiers, working hard to crank out the new Storm Chasing Handbook, Second Edition! This is the first big revision since 2002. We will get the first batch of copies December 16. This expanded edition totals 322 pages with 206 illustrations, with some new artwork by David Hoadley, lots of new information on equipment, and many changes throughout the book.

Many thanks to all of you who made it possible -- copies, compensation, and so forth will be coming out shortly (though much of the first batch will be earmarked for customers trying to order for their Dec 25 deadlines).

Grats on getting it done!

Anybody who hasn't read version 1 would do themselves a good favor to pick up a copy. For me, the 1st edition was one of the books that I read after many years of deliberation before finally going chasing for the first time in 2004. The things I learned played a non-trivial part in me being in the right place at the right time on May 12 that year.

I want a signed copy.

I may wait until February to have you sign a personal copy for me at the Storm chaser conference...hoping that you attend. I may order it early thought, being too impatient to wait to read it.

I'm starting to revamp my home office a little and am looking to have a full section dedicated to personalized copies of storm chaser and weather books.

I'm intrigued by the "storm troubleshooter" feature. This looks to be new; at least, I don't recall seeing it in my current copy of the Handbook. The name of the feature is self-explanatory in a general way, but would you mind elaborating a bit?

I will be picking up a copy to study over the break while I have some downtime. I look forward to reading it. I plan on reading and study before chasing for my first year. I am looking forward to learning as much as possible.

I've just purchased my copy of the handbook. Can't wait to dig into it and get some good insight :)

I have a question, would one need to read the first edition before getting the second edition or is the second edition have most of the first with some up to date information?

I think this is a major updating of the old edition from 2002. I guess there will still be some old stuff but much has changed in forecasting, chase equipment and even with some of the restaurants and other attractions across the Plains. You would not have to read the old edition first. Simply go to the newest edition as you would with any textbook.

wow looks great

Wow really looks great. Of course I am looking forward to buying this book for not only the weather, chasing and other materials but also two other of my favorite things to do that are in the book : eating (restaurants) and a list of other attractions in different places (I am interested to see the listing in terms of caves, national parks etc that I already know about but can add to).
I know updating a book like this take time. I did a chapter for earth-space imagery book for Kendall Hunt that the Profs at Harvard U were the directors of and it took two summers just for me to finish that extensive chapter.
Congrats Tim.
I look forward to buying it and getting it in the mail and devouring it!
