Sprint Offers $15 Unlimited Plan (new customers)

So I have been with verizon for years, but the unlimited option is just more than I want to pay.

Sprint is now offering $15 unlimited plans for new customers.

One catch is no hotspot, but couldnt you just jailbreak and tether? I mean at $15 a month it wouldnt be a bad backup to my Verizon?

It’s ultimately your choice if you want to jailbreak and tether, but it seems folks are getting their plans cancelled more often these days when the carriers get wise to what users are doing. Sprint and T Mobile did merge, so it could potentially be a way to get in on the cheap and then wait to see what the future holds when the merger is complete. It sounds like their coverage map is not good outside of metro areas, but even if it had 2G or 3G service available that’s probably sufficient for downloading radar updates and internet usage. Also, new models/revisions of Android phones aren't really capable of jailbreaking & tethering. I had a ZTE Blade Spark with the newest Android on a restricted AT&T plan that would absolutely not work with any of the known methods of root & tether.

Now, I just switched to Sprint three days ago, unlimited plan, hotspot, etc, and the price is actually not too terrible at all.

Also, all of Sprint's phones now freely roam between Sprint and T-Mobile, and are capable of CDMA & GSM operation.

The problem is you need to read the fine print or log-in and see the exact details. Most of these deals involve heavily throttled data and it's worthless for downloading any type of file. Some plans allow a specific amount of "unlimited" data them severely slow things down so it's useless.

Very true. There are tons of conditions attached to this deal. They label these as unlimited but they're not even close to the true meaning of the word.

I usually tend to look past the word "unlimited" and find out where throttling starts.

For Sprint's unlimited plan, it's 22gb on the phone, 10gb on the hotspot. Although they are offering data-only hotspot plans of 50gb for $50.

I've been rooting Android devices for 10 years. Any device can be rooted. Some of the newer ones can be a pain to do but it can be done.

Defeat AT&T's modifications to the newest Android platform.

Not saying it can't be done, but man is it not worth the time and effort.
