Has anyone had the chance to use both of these cameras chasing? I have the 100 and was considering purchasing the 700,
but I can’t really find much difference other than the slow mo portion of it. I’d love to hear from fellow chasers who use this for chasing. I planned on putting one on my windshield and the other for handheld. It’s eirher that or I’ll buy the AX53 for the dash and use my 100 for handheld....but I also shoot some wedding video too. Trying to figure out what is best for my needs!

Thanks, I have the AX100 right now, thinking I'm just going to purchase the AX53 for my dash and call it a day. I just dropped 200 on an external mic for my 100 and I'm pretty happy with the nighttime image quality and audio.. Maybe I'll change my mind between now and new years, but otherwise, I need a new Macbook and that is probably going above on the priority list lol.

I'm also following. I have been reading on the 100 vs. the 700 and don't see a ton of difference in the incomplete spec sheets I can find. What are the 'real' differences for the ~$700 price tag difference? @Michael Snyder - Are those numbers you're seeing from spec sheet or real experience?

Real experience. The AX100 doesnt have the great quick focus the AX700 has, and the hot shoe and the AX100 has to be a sony adaptor to use a Rode Mic for example. Plus no dual card slots, no HDR. I sold the AX100, and Im going to sell the AX53 and keep the AX700.

I shot a low topped supercell with the AX53 and while the stabilization is great, the dynamic range sucks. The ND filters on the AX700 just make such a great video vs the AX53 where highlights are just blown out and you can really tell the difference in the sensor size/picture quality.

When you get your big day out on the plains are you really going to tell yourself- "whew, im glad I saved some money but got blown out highlights and an average picture!" No, you aren't. The image quality is a bit better than the AX100 and I havent used the HDR that much yet on the AX700, and its much better than the AX53.

If you want Ill sell you my AX53, Its got a filter on it, and the battery holds excellent charge, comes with the box, charging cord, etc....

Thank you for the kind offer, I actually got one for Christmas from my family. Very nice gift! I plan on just using it for my dash mounted camera anyways. Still going to consider the AX700 especially after reading your comments on its difference from the AX100. Thank you though! I appreciate it!

Here are the full specs for the AX700: https://www.sony.com/electronics/handycam-camcorders/fdr-ax700/specifications. I noticed in low light mode the lux is 1.7. It also has a night shot function but I have no idea if that’s effective or not. For low light conditions I’d like the lux to be as close to or less than 1 as possible. Supercells seem to turn day into night rather quickly, which requires mode changes to adapt.
