• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Sleeping in the car?

Yep, you can park in the Walmart parking lot and sleep.

Chasers packing.....can't wait until someone with a bright lightbar pisses off the wrong person with a gun. We are sure to get regulated then!

EDIT: That was sarcasm for that that are sarcastically impaired.

Open carry firearm

Matt,

I see no reason to carry in the open in the first place. All you do is advertise you are armed. This will result in someone seeing the gun and then the subsequent felony take down where guns are pointed at you and you get proned and cuffed. In this day and age concealment is necessary.

Oklahoma recognizes most states concealed carry permits. If you have it within reach concealed in your car I do not see how that hinders you. I can just see someone getting caught up in a chase and jumping out with an exposed gun. Probably right infront of the sheriff in west Texas, it could be very ugly.

Self defense takes alot of common sense, just because you carry does not mean you need to pull it out. Most of all be a good witness and call police. It is not recommended you carry the gun on your person if you are going too fast chasing. Your leaning down to hide the weapon might be seen by an officer and again you will meet the pavement.

Good day all,

Slept in my car MANY times - Especially on hurricane chasing trips.

In the plains (tornado alley) chases, I try hard to find a cheap motel, but if it's not available (graduations in late May / Memorial day, etc) I pick a safe place (rest stop / truck stop) and sleep in car there.

Not comfortable, but you do have access to showers and meals at these places 24/7 (Flying J for example).

I make sure my seat can recline almost horizontally (SUV's great for this), or if in a van, a small inflatable bed is great. In a small car, reclining and a pillow light sheet to cover is good, and I usually leave the car running / air on if it's hot (but do this ONLY outside - not in a garage or such - to avoid carbon monoxide).

You can also use camping equipment and sleep OUTSIDE your vehicle as well, but that takes much space and all that. Also, a chase partner of mine told me that he had his tent "slashed" during a chase at a rest stop and stuff stolen from it.

I heard of tire slashing, but now "tent slashing"?

Makes me wonder.

I go with Chris on this - I ONLY sleep in the car during a Hurricane chase (thats only because I have too) Tornado chasing is hotels all the way - but there again I normally chase for 30 days solid back to back and I need my sleep.

Moreover I just dont feel safe sleeping outdoors - I value my life much more than a $50 buck room saving and I dont want my Laptop or cameras etc stolen from me.

For hurricaning I try to get a hotel the day/night before somewhere in the region of likely landfall(unless they are sold out). After driving for the better part of a day, I want a real bed and a TV. Obviously the day of landfall you are going to be sleeping in your car, and you are likely spending a long time awake with little sleep, so I want at least one more day of better rest.
