RAM Mounts has released a new, temporary mounting system that goes on the passenger seat. It's supposed to be fairly easy to install and remove. It would be perfect for solo chasers who rent cars or don't have enough room for the more traditional mounts.

I used to have a universal RAM mount in my old car, but there is not enough space for it in my Jeep Liberty. I had to go back to the old method of placing the laptop in the seat and padding the floor boards in case I hit the brakes too hard. I already have the laptop tray from my previous mount, so I think I'm going to pick this up for next season.

That's looks really nice. I'll have to do that with the next vehicle since it's universal. I have the ram mount in my f150 and love it but I'd be willing to be this may be more stable since it's not sitting on a tall mount.

I'm wondering how quickly it can be assembled and disassembled. It doesn't look difficult, and I'm sure it would be a lot quicker after the first time.

The main drawback with a laptop in this position is the ergonomics. It is a back-pain producer to be in the driver's seat and twisting your upper body nearly 90 degrees to use the computer. I used to have a homemade mount that put the laptop in approximately the same position, it got pretty uncomfortable after about 5 minutes.

If they had a swivel arm for that mount where you could swing the laptop over the center console when you are stopped and ready to use it, that might be ideal.

They have parts and peices to make it that way. Just go to the main site and build a custom setup.

There's also a video of the set-up process. It looks pretty quick.

I thought about getting this mount, but I too didn't think the ergonomics would be that great. One advantage though, is less vibration for your hard drive. (I imagine that the seat would dampen vibrations quite a bit)

I have two swings arms from the universal mount. One clamps over a ball socket and the second has a rod that slides into the first. The nice thing about RAM mounts is most of their parts are interchangeable and can be fit together to meet most needs.

I think the other major drawback is the fact you can't use it if you have a partner. I have enough trouble trying to keep my current Jotto out of the way enough to make my passengers comfortable. But I do like the idea (for those that are lone chasers) that this can be easily removed entirely for passenger comfort on non chase days.

Looks like you have to make sure there's enough room to clear the "J" rod that protrudes at the front of the seat. When I first looked at the device I wondered why they had the mounting plate set back so far from the front of the seat and it looks like it's for clearance reasons.
