SE Oklahoma Chasing Territory

To Chase or Not to Chase

Another point to consider:

What if the expected setup plays out differently than predicted? Much of 2/10/2009's action occurred west of the I35 corridor. If I lived in say, Wichita, KS or Ft. Smith, AR, and decided against chasing this setup due to expected poor terrain, how disappointed might I be to find sups developing west and southwest of OKC? If, on the other hand, I were to have played Shane's "lottery", I would have at least had the opportunity to find myself pleasantly surprised by action in better-than-expected chase terrain. There's no guarantee I would have scored, but at least I wouldn't have kicked myself for not rolling the dice. I'm a bit of a pragmatist, so it's not likely I would have ventured an entire day's drive to position for such a setup, but a few hours? Absolutely!

Just my perspective here. It might be different after numerous chase seasons living in the plains, where I could chase the big setups all spring long.
