Several days ago I submitted my resignation to the rest of the staff here at StormTrack and I wanted to go ahead and make that decision public.

This was not a decision I made lightly, rather with many weeks of considerable thought. In the end, the reality is I don't have near the spare time to dedicate to volunteer activities, such as helping with running StormTrack, as I did when I first took a staff position 2 1/2 years ago, and likewise in the year or so I served around 2003-2004. 3 1/2 years total helping to run a message board is an eternity in Internet time.

My various business pursuits, along with some personal matters, now demand much more of my time, and as such I can't dedicate time of the quality a forum such as StormTrack needs of a staff member.

Unfortunately, I have to cut moorings someplace, and after considerable thought, this is going to have to be one of them. I have been pleased to help in any way I could during my time on staff, but it's time for someone else who has more time to dedicate to take over my position.

I wish the current staff the best. A great, cooperative team is in place right now. If you need any assistance with anything on the board, please contact one of them.

Thanks to everyone who supported me when I first joined staff, and continued to during my time on staff. Perhaps one day my time will free up some and I can again one day help out where needed.

I'll probably continue to post here and there on occasion, but my involvement here will be greatly diminished compared to the past.

Thanks David, not dave! I been a long time reader and just a recent member but I have seen nothing but good things out of here. You've done a fantastic job making sure I was following the rules haha! I look forward to seeing you sticking around even if it is on a limited basis.

Thanks David

Thanks David for your hard work. I worked for AOL as a volunteer helper for 8 years and I know how much time it can take.

Good luck with your business and other stuff. Looking forward to still seeing your stuff and comments on Stormtrack.

David, thanks for the hard work and years of service. Good luck with your business and other matters and keep posting your chase reports and other insights.

Thanks.

We apreciate everything you have done for ST David. THANKYOU.

David has done a tremendous amount for Stormtrack, both on the moderating front and the site administration / technical front. I hope that all who post on ST appreciate the time and effort he's put into this group. Thanks, David!

David, I honestly don't know how you managed to find the time. I know I couldn't, and I probably don't have half the stuff going on occupying my time as you do. Thanks so much, and don't disappear, okay?

Bob

Thanks for everything, David! The forums have been working great and not too many problems were encountered, so great job. I hope you can now take a few minutes out for yourself to enjoy things and get things done. Life is way too busy these days, it is getting crazy. We all like to do a lot of things but sometimes we just have to take a step back once in a while.

Thank you for the work, David. You've done a great job -

Moderating an internet forum is tedious, thankless work most of the time (unless you're not actually any good at it, in which case it's easy because you're a slacker). A good moderator never really gets to feel like they're "one of the guys" because of the nature of the job. Once you cross over from participant to enforcer, you've fallen into a different light (which, you'll be happy to know, lasts the rest of your natural life). But you've done really well juggling this, and I think that most folks see you as a fellow chaser first, and then somewhere you find the time to work in here too.

It's also hard to stay balanced and diplomatic when the heat is on (which is like, always). I've always been kind of puzzled when people seem so eager to take this task on. Moderators get to do lots of fun stuff ... like move posts around, notify people when they've violated the TOS, then listen to them complain about the stupid TOS, then listen to them go back to complaining that we need more TOS, then write in their blog that the forum and its moderators suck big time, then leave and never come back, or leave and come back to stir things up again later, then process 20 new memberships that have been waiting forever and telling everyone and their brother about it, then you get to mentor those 20 new members in learning the etiquette of posting, and finally you get to try and make meaningful contributions of your own here and there. And then when it's all done, you get to look back and say "umm yeah, great ... so what did I spend all that time doing exactly?" :)

So anyway, that's my tribute to you and moderators everywhere. You've made it a nice place to hang out and talk about weather and I appreciate it. And among the others who have been there and done it, you can now be considered a fellow survivor. It's like some sort of awakening to realize you can use a forum again without feeling like you're married to it.

Looking forward to your future contributions.

I'd like to add my appreciative words of thanks to David for all he has done for the Stormtrack forums. Many of us remember the frequent (and often lengthy) service outages before David took the server helm. Those things are now a distant memory. We probably have all grown to take for granted how smoothly things now run, and I suppose that is the best testament to your job well done. Thanks for everything, David!
