This is unbelievable. The shallow modified arctic airmass came down Monday the 10th into southwestern Kansas, and a near non-stop epidose of freezing fog has been going on, which continues as of the time of this writing.. more than 48 hours later. I have put a webpage up with some pics I shot with my new Nikon D70 (thanks Tim S!). I have never seen rime icing this thick. It is a true winter wonderland out there!! I posted a few pics below... I have some more at http://www.underthemeso.com/winter/2005jan11/pics.html

Wow that is incredible. I've seen rime deposits on a couple of occasions when I lived in CA, but not nearly as thick as that. The stuff on the trees and on the fencepost looks like it must be about 2-3 inches thick!

That's great, and I'm sitting on the summit of Mount Washington right now. We are just about the rime capitol of the world too.

Those are some very cool photos ... we've hovered around the freezing mark north of KC for a week and a half now, ice continuing to accumulate on trees and surfaces ... roads are surprisingly clear today, but extremely treacherous for the last couple of nights. It's made for some beautiful ice formations on vegetation, etc. - extremely pretty, but nothing like the interest held by those photos, Mike -

Hey mike i have never seen any thing like it but ill tell you whatt thats pretty sweet. that basket ball hoop photo may be sellable you never know.

We had thunderstorms here in Grand Rapids MI at around noon today some very close strikes that i didnt see but i did see the flash through the fog caused by the melting snow. but the thunder was close and loud. Just what the SDS doctor ordered. especially for January 12th
