Real storm chasers have fuzzy bears on their dash...

I've never heard of attaching a stuffed animal to one's grill...nor can I say I've ever seen it. A stuffed cheeseburger on the dash, sure...

Amazing example of the crazy and superficial media world we live in, that someone like this can get their 15 minutes of fame and have the opportunity to represent storm chasers to the public and (falsely) add to chasing lore with something I’ve never heard of (getting a stuffed animal from a “claw” machine at an arcade and mounting it on the grill??) She only chased for five or six years, and what kind of “authentic” chaser quits after any length of time, let alone just five or six years. Not sure how she got that TED talk either, it’s not that impressive and imparts little knowledge or appreciation of the meteorology or physical dynamics of these storms. Seems a bit “new-agey” to me too...

Meanwhile, others of our group chase for decades in relative obscurity...

FWIW, I chase with the little sponge cheeseburger that was given out in honor/memory of Tim, Paul and Carl at Chasercon 2014.

I know I've only been chasing for 3.5 years or so? but I've ever seen anything like that on anyone's chase vehicles. From the way the article reads it sounds like she was more along for the ride rather than actually chasing though.

Yeah that sounds like TED talks in a nutshell.

I agree that I have never seen the Toy Story-like stuffed animal on the front grill after winning it from the claw game.

As was mentioned, she clearly wasn't a dedicated storm chaser. It's cool to interview a female Storm Chaser. They are obviously under represented in the storm chasing Community. But there are so many other... better female Storm Chasers out there! My only guess as to why they chose her is for her National Geographic cred.

Anyway, I guess Warren and I are the only weirdos around here that have stuffed animals. Since I christened us the Tornado Alley Stormtroopers a couple years ago and made a coat of arms, I figured a Stormtrooper mascot would be fitting. First, I got the Captain Phasma because she matches the color of the 4Runner. Then I found the stuffed dash Stormtrooper in a lost and found.
