Installed my new Ram mount today. A few problems during install. First the telescope base (my term) which mounts to the floor base was suppose to be mounted along the same plane as the base unit holes for the seat screws. There was not enough clearance between the telescope base and the center pedestal. I had to mount the telescope base 90 degrees to the base unit. This ended up being no big deal. The tray arm is long enough to clear the dash board.

One other minor detail. The threaded rod for the telescope arm was not painted black at either end. The telescope arm knob has no cover and you can see the thread rod.. A black can of spray paint took care of this detail.

Overall the install was easy and took about 1 1/2 hours. The whole assembly is rock solid. My next test will be to drive around and see how stable the unit is with a laptop and check for any noises. I hate rattles.

BTW, notice the iPhone Ram mount on top of the dash.

I have installed two RAM mounts along with a lot of other toys in the last few months in my Tahoe and older Chevy pickup. Due to lack of significant weather events, we have not had reasons to check out the installations.

Finally we had a chance on the way to the Chaser Convention and the after trip. Using the computer was a pleasure compared to past trips.

I added the little 'basket' accessory on the back of the computer base to hold the computer power block. I also went looking and found a 12 volt to 19.5 volt converter that rides nicely in it. This item also eliminated a lot of hash noise in the radios that the old inverter produced.

The mount itself was as solid as could be expected. I had to tighten up the knobs a couple of times after adjustments. We made one forty mile run on washboard roads into and out of Chaco Canyon Historical Area in northwest New Mexico that really put the mount to the test. This was the longest REALLY rough road I have ever been on. We were happy when we could hit ten miles an hour.

Another item we added was a Logitec 'Marbel' Mouse with a wireless connection. This made life much nicer than it would have been using a pad or normal mouse. The wireless receiver fits nicely on the back of the basket with a little Velcro.

We were running a RF APRS tracker and a computer (UIView for the hams out there) based tracker. In New Mexico there is an OUTSTANDING APRS network. When the air card lost contact the RF system picked us up. You can check our track out by going to www.aprs.fi and looking for W5VEX-15 over the past 7 days.

The net result is that we had a significant test for all of the new toys and the RAM mount proved its worth by making it much easier to control the toys in comfort.:) no, :D

What year is your F-150? I have a 2006 expedition which is pretty much an F-150 with a hatchback and was looking at various mounts, is there still ample room for a passenger once its installed?

2007 and my wife 5'9" says there's plenty of room. The mount at it's lowest setting is below the pax airbag cover. The only problems were noted in my previous post.
