Radar practice

That is one heck of a couplet there. In the reflectivity image you can also clearly see a debris ball, which is the high DBZ (white) return embedded within the hook echo. Very scary storm, hoping for the best for the people Maumelle, Mayflower, and Vilonia.

The 60 second countdown in GR2Analyst or GR2 is just the polling speed. A full volume still takes 5 minutes in the most popular VCP's.

Good to know. I was curious as I'm relatively new to the level II arena. It seems as though on occasion I will get two new images in a matter of a couple minutes, but it does seem sporadic.

For that specific storm, you might want to check the Cleveland TDWR velocity data as well (if it's in range). I've seen situations where the TDWR sees a couplet much better than the closest 88D, either by distance or because of lower scanning elevations (some scan at 0.1 degree).

Jake, were you at any of the recent skywarn programs in Cuyahoga county?

I'm hoping to get some radar practice this evening. Looks like some pretty high risk areas to watch today

I was at the Skywarn class by Rocky River on the 20th.

Well, the NWS just issued a tornado watch for NW Ohio, and just east of us in PA, there's a severe TS watch. We seem to be on a little island of stability* at the moment, though I wouldn't be surprised if that tornado watch drifts our way over the course of the evening. Might get some radar AND spotting practice.

* Wow, that's a math pun, and weather pun, and physics pun all rolled into one; I swear I do have a life.

Awesome! I was at the same class!

Yea it is going to be interesting to see what happens over the next few hours. Im noticing more storms popping up everywhere, so its getting to be that time of day!
