Polar low in Southern ocean makes huge waves at Bells beach - Video

My Brother and I filmed these awesome surfing conditions over the weekend. Bells beach Victoria, Australia. (9th july 2011)

the highest wave recorded from this system was 18 metres (about 60ft)

Good day all,

Polar lows are usually mesoscale vortices (< 100 KM in size). To produce such large swells, a mid-latitude / wave cyclone (winter storm) is needed.
