Perth, Western Australia Tornado, 7th June 2012

Quite cold upper air too Michael. The 700mb temperature was -4C and with the surface temperature 19C, thats very steep lapse rates off the surface.

Based on footage from the cafe, I'd have to guess that either no warning was given or no one heeded a warning that was issued. People seemed completely unaware that a tornado was approaching and many even seemed to not care as it began to strike.

The first warning of the day was issued after two tornadoes had been reported including the one featured in the video. Tornado warnings are extremely rare in Australia. The Perth Bureau of Meteoology often issue a WATCH type warninsg for events like this but none was in place. I'm not sure too many people would take notice anyway.
regards, Michael
