EF5
A know a number of you will find this interesting: Finally It Is Stated in the Published Research: The Original Fujita Scale Is Superior to Its Replacement
Things I can say to this audience that I cannot say on my blog: The whole 'enhanced' scale was an exercise in envy and jealously unlike anything I've seen in meteorology. At the time of the replacement there were people who questioned whether the new scale was really a step forward. There were those -- based on nothing except their opinion -- who were lobbying for EF-5 to be set at 200 mph because they questioned whether tornado winds could be significantly stronger than that.
For several years, I refused to switch to the new scale but after quite a bit of criticism I went ahead and changed.
While in practice the original Fujita Scale became a damage (only) scale, it was already intended (and I spoke with Ted about this) to be both a direct measurement and damage scale.
