• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Last week I held several special map discussions at the National Weather Center in the Hazardous Weather Testbed (HWT) regarding the winter storm that was forecast for the southern plains. These became rather popular in the NWC and so we decided to videotape and post online Wednesday's map discussion. You can view the map discussion here: http://vimeo.com/9031940. It's roughly 35 minutes long.

I post this after the fact to say that we are thinking about ways to go about posting our map discussions online shortly after they occur so that interested parties might be able to listen to them. Again, there is no guarantee we will be able to record these on a regular basis, but we are looking into it.

Anyone wanting to provide feedback (positive or negative) or share any other comments or concerns please feel free to do so in this post, PM me, or send me an email at [email protected]

Thanks!

Looks interesting, and something I would enjoy seeing.

What about broadcasting them live online? You could use something like ustream for free, and just use a webcam built into a computer.

Hi Ben,

We are exploring ways to broadcast them live, however it isn't as simple as just setting up a webcam. We want to be able to get a clear audio (from multiple sources) and video feed that is as of high a quality as possible.

For this video we used two wireless mics (myself and Greg Carbin from the SPC) and a boom mic for the general audience. We also set up a professional grade camera on a monitor and recorded that for the video. I had a meeting this morning with some AV people on ways to broadcast live and also record simultaneously and we hope that some of the ideas turn out to be feasible in the near future.

Thanks again for the comments!

This would be great to see in the future as something live or something accessible to other people over the internet. Already watching the video from the last event. Very, very informative and educational.

We were unable to get today's discussion recorded because of people being out of town. However, we did meet earlier this week to map out a strategy to stream discussions in the future. Hopefully we'll be able to have them streaming in a couple of weeks.
