DOes anyone have a link to a good place to read with info or a FAQ
page about sitting up a NOAAPORT feed for newbies.

I am currently using Gempak set up by Rob Dale with all the info
being pulled form the internet which is using around 150 to 200 gigs
of data transfer per month and with all the talk of ISP's putting
bandwidth caps on internet usage I have been looking at different
options to lighten the load off the internet as my current usgae with
everythign running including cam's scanner feeds, GR data is about
400 Gig Pre month which AT&T is talking caps of 150 i sorta blow that
out of the water. So I would like to see what is involved in getting
NOAAPORT

Here is what i know

I need a computer for injesting the data I assume linux with special
software. I have a computer I can use

I will need a 8 ft sat dish I am in west Ky aimes at AMC-4 is
this somehting i can get aimed i have aimed several DTV and DISHNET
dishes. I had one person tell me a 12 ft min dish was required??

i will need a feedhorn for the dish type unknown Chaparal

i will need a receiver i have been hearing about the novra s75??

Need a way to interface between noaaport and gempak PC's

what changes need to be made to gempak computer to injest from
noaaport instead of the internet

Any info would greatly be appreciated

I was thinking of doing a NOAAPORT setup myself. The hardest part is trying to find a 10-foot dish to pick up the feed (here in Pennsylvania).

There is a great web site that describes their setup in PR with a 10-foot dish. They also have a PDF document on their software used with NOAAPORT: http://www.noaaport.net.

The link to the article is http://www.noaaport.net/docs/geo10-june2006.pdf.

I learned a lot! I picked up a Novra S-75 DVB-S receiver a year ago and I'm waiting for the dish. I have a friend that is willing to sell me their 10-foot dish to complete my setup.

Be warned about the minimum dish size (8-foot). The dish sizes are very important to a NOAAPORT setup. I have seen some in the southeast or southwest that have tried with 6 or 8 foot dishes and haven't had good luck with them.

For the most accurate and reliable feed I would use a 10-foot dish at least.

The SatelliteGuys forum (http://www.satelliteguys.us) had some discussion on NOAAPORT setups around the nation. (You can find them by searching the forum).

Thanks,
Christopher Zenzel
