NOAA has released a new near real-time product for total electron content. The intent is to to assess the affects of solar storms on GPS systems. However, I wanted to post this because of the recent research from NASA suggesting an even more important role in thunderstorms and hurricanes than previously suspected. Also, converging fields of electrical current were noted in the area where the Hurricanes thrived.
