Hello, A few months back I unplugged my weather radio and then plugged it back in a few days later. It is plugged in to the wall and I reset everything. I set it all up how I had it before. Now my siren no longer goes off for a watch or warning and my radio will turn on all the time just making static noise or the siren will go off alot for a radio braodcast error.

What does this mean and how can I get my siren back? Also listning to the NOAA radio today it quit updating. There was 3 new warnings east of story county but no beeping on the radio to warn of these warnings it just continued to have the forecasts and say story county was under a warning until 6:30 over and over again. Why was this?

Also when I had batteries in the radio for emergency's after awhile it says the batteries were low. So I replaced them and so far have no problems but before it was still plugged into the wall so it dont need batteries to run the radio. Why did it do this?

This radio cost me 100$ so I dont want to get a new one any time soon. I thought mabey someone would know the problem and tell me if I did something wrong with the radio.

Slowly state the problem again - what you posted makes no sense. What is a 'radio broadcast error' and what keeps happening over and over?

Are you sure you set up everything as you had it before? Many radios can be programmed to activate the alarm for different warnings and watches. In addition, make sure you programmed your counties correctly (FIPS codes). What radio do you have (model and manufacturer)?

Are you on the correct station? You say that you just keep hearing forecasts when there are warnings to your east... If you are receiving regular AHR/NWR content, then it isn't anything to do with your radio. Again, it sounds more like you are on the wrong station -- perhaps you're on a station that doesn't cover the counties for which you expect to hear warnings.

I think batteries will slowly drain even if your radio is plugged into AC power. Many devices I have do this (clock radios, etc), and I assume it just has to do with the internal circuitry of the device. How long did the batteries last with the radio using AC power (mine usually last a couple of years)?

Ok the "error bloadcast message" I get alot says I have a error braodcast and tells me to listen to my radio for more information. The siren goes off every time for this. I turn my radio on and then I get normal braodcasting of my area with the local forecast and current conditions etc.

Every day my radio turns itself on but always it is just static and nothing more.

Now Wensday the warnings stopped coming in and only Story County was warned. They played this warning well after 6:30 when the warnng had expired. My portable NOAA radio that always works fine had the same problem. Mabey this was just a problem on NOAA's end? This is the first time that has happened.

I am worried my NOAA radio is messed up. I am probibly over reacting or just did not program something right but I have only had this radio since christmas and I payed 100$ for it so I hope it is not messed up.

My area is set up as central IA and Jasper County and ch7 is what I use becase that was the number I got from the noaa site for my local area. I just looked at my alarms again and noticed they were set to "buzz" so I set them to "wb". Will see if that solves my siren problem.

The batteries I put in lasted for mabey 3-4 months and I replaced them and the new batteries lasted for only several months.

Here is a picture of my radio

If you are hearing a warning after it's expiration, and on multiple radios, if you stop and think about it -- that's not a problem with the radio. The radio is simply airing what the NWS is broadcasting, it does not interpret the weather or anything else... Don't try to overcomplicate the issue.

Sounds like you might have a reception issue. I had an old Radio Shack weather radio (no SAME technology), and it worked fine. A couple of years ago, it would the warning tone on it would randomly chirp. I thought it was a problem with the radio, so I recently replaced it with a Midland WR-100. I have another one of these in another room, and it works great.

Well, I set up the new radio, input the SAME codes, and nothing works. I went to mess with it some more, and noticed the LED was saying "CHECK RADIO RECEPTION." Well, the station seemed to come through loud and clear, but still nothing worked when a warning was issued. So, I swapped the two radios to see if the individual receiver was bad. The radio worked when swapped, so it's obviously a reception issue for me.

In the room that's working, the radio is placed on a windowsill. In the room that's not working, the radio is on an endtable in the corner of the room farthest from the window. I've concluded that the radio is not getting a "clean" signal for the warnings tones to activate. I'm current looking at purchasing an external antenna that I will place in the window...it costs $30...which was the same price as the radio.

If you're radio has a jack for an external antenna, and you suspect reception issues, I'd try the antenna...especially if you've got a $100 radio that you don't want to get junk. If it is reception, chances are that a new radio, which will probably be more than an external antenna), will have the "same" problem.

Get it? "Same?" Cue the crickets.

Chris yes that is the same message I get... "Radio Reception Broadcasting error listen to radio". I just had one and read what it said. Sounds like I have the same problem as you. Thankyou for answering my question and now I know what I must do to fix it.

Thanks again.
