No NOAA Weather Radio tornado warning samples anywhere?

My four-year old wanted to hear what our weather radio would sound like if there was a tornado warning (for good reason too, an extra pair of ears isn't a bad idea). I found nothing on the Internet! Is there really no clip of an actual tornado warning anywhere? Not counting chase footage, as the extraneous noise of people talking would be distracting.

Given the educational utility of something like this it's somewhat astonishing this is so hard to find.

No sorry, none of the above. We are looking for an example of a tornado warning... not just alert tones.

Tim....I have a Mp3 of the Greensburg TOR warning from NWR....I can't attach the file here...Either PM me with an Email address to send it to or tell me how to attach the file here...Jim

Found some online...

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/dtx/1953beecher/images/beecher_warning.mp3

Or you could also call Rick Smith over at Norman and see if he can Email an audio file to you... Rick or Greg at the SPC may agree that having an mp3 of this for presentations at schools might help their "OUTREACH" for NWR.... All the best and Good Luck!!!

Except for Anthony's clip, none of the samples above work... they don't sound like actual NOAA Weather Radio content and at least a few of them are actually homemade. However I think Anthony's sample may work in a pinch.

I think it's worthwhile to put some warnings online so I may monitor the streaming audio page at http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/streamaudio.htm and capture a warning next time there's an outbreak.

The actual NWR broadcast of two Severe Weather Statements for the Greensburg KS tornado, including the infamous Tornado Emergency statement, is heard in the audio portion of the May 4 chapter of the Storms of 2007. In both cases, you hear some external automobile noise as well, including a direction turn signal clicking, but I suspect some fancy audio engineering might be able to remove those artifacts.

Unfortunately, I don't have my copy of the DVD handy, but Darin Brunin was the chapter producer, and he may be able to locate the owner of those video segments to provide permission to use them. And then I can take my audio files and send them to you.

Some literature I read with a wx radio I just bought my dad said that there are test warnings issued sometime on Wednesdays. I can't remember the time, but maybe it's listed somewhere online or in your radio instructions.

I'll have my camcorder ready today just in case my new weather radio (Midland) alerts again today like it did yesterday. I just bought it about a week ago because Mike Nelson (Channel 7) is running a promotion with King Soopers (a local grocery store) and the unit actually looked pretty nice for $30.00.

I set it up last week and yesterday it alerted for the first time. At first I couldn't figure out what the obnoxious sound was because it sounded like an old-fashioned phone ringing only slightly different (like a phone from the early 80s). At first I thought it was a special ring I had set up on my cell phone, but when I went upstairs I realized it was the weather radio. Today is almost the same weather set up as yesterday, so I'll be ready just in case.

I have the standard Tone itself without the actual Warning info. I am pretty sure your looking for this.

Alot of the Tones referenced and even some I have found are nothing like what plays on my NOaa radio. The mp3 file I have is the actual sound before you hear the Voice from NOAA tell about what the warning is, etc.

I will hunt for a Warning tone with actual NOAA voice on the warning.

Tony Cook is the owner of that audio/video, which still gives me goosebumps listening to. Tony not only saw the Greensburg tornado, but was on the Arnett, OK tornado's full life cycle! Talk about the perfect day of chasing for him...
