Howdy everybody,
I'm John. Most people call me Noosh. I've been on this forum for about ten years now, and have been chasing just as long. My forecasting skills aren't exactly superlative, and I wouldn't call myself a veteran by any stretch. But I still enjoy the hell out of it. I fall squarely into hobbyist territory, and I manage to take a 2-week vacation on the Plains every Spring. It's a nice juxtaposition to my day job of managing 80-something video game artists. That's the history part.
I end up talking to friends and family about the weather a lot, mainly because they know I pay close attention to it. I suspect many on this forum experience the same in their personal lives. Recently, I decided to start up a weather blog on Facebook. It had a few different reasons. One was to stop spamming my friends who live far away with weather posts that weren't at all relevant to them. Another was to make an easy place for my local friends to connect for local weather information delivered in plain English; and they could also invite their own local friends follow. Finally, it gave me a nice place to slowly teach technical terms to my friends who are enthusiastic about weather stuff, in the hopes that my explanations eventually start making more sense to them. The last one just might be a pipe dream.
In the couple weeks I've had it up, I've maintained at least daily posts about what's happening, and what's on the way. An unforeseen side effect is that I've started to recognize that it's excellent motivation to improve my forecasting skills. If people are actually reading it, then I might as well make sure it's as accurate as I can get. The challenge has been fun. The blog has picked up a little bit of steam (a modest 155 likes so far), and got me thinking that it might not be a bad idea to leave these few words about it here, in case anyone would like to follow along.
And so I extend an open invitation for the forum members here to check it out, and like if you want to get updates. I welcome any and all constructive criticism either here or there. See a hole in my forecast? Bring it up. Got a suggestion for presenting information in a better way? I'd like to hear it. It won't hurt my feelings.
