Just a suggestion...how about a permanent sticky thread that new members can post to and say hello instead of starting a new thread every time that someone joins.

It's nothing against the people doing it...I just think it takes away from the beginners section when 3/4 of the posts are people saying they are new members.

I agree. I welcome the newbies, but it gets tedious sifting through "I am new here" with legitimate "Why does this happen" type threads.

This is the same reason people want a sub forum for Photography. I think we should have a sub forum for new members to post their introductory post. Another site did this and people seemed to enjoy posting their introductory post there. A single thread for all new members would also work.

I am fine with new members posting and introducing themselves. We have all done this at one time.

As a 'newbie' I love this idea. In that manner I, too, would be able to weed through to read and absorb the answers to the questions of "why does this happen".

I did this on my site and it works well. With the thread being pinned the new members will be able to easily see it.

A subforum not a good idea IMHO as it will clutter up the forums. I learned my leason with that one QUICKLY.

I have seen forums with sub forums that was not cluttered up. The sub forum is like a stickied thread. The only difference is when you click on the sub forum you can more threads.

If this site was a democracy, which I realize that it isn't, I would also vote for a sticky site for new folks to make their introductions. People would soon see that there is supposed to be some order to the site rather than a random form of chaos.

When it was time for mine, they were scatttered all across the board so I didn't post one as I figured that at least half of the members would miss it by not looking in the right place. May be a poor excuse, but it seemed logical at the time.
