New all-inclusive storm tracking software coming in Fall - taking suggestions.

No, its still a very current issue because the leading producers of consumer graphics hardware, Nvidia and Radeon are building their hardware for Windows based Direct3D. Sure it runs OpenGL, but the bulk of the support and resources resides on the gaming platform of choice which is still the PC. Are our weather apps first persion shooters? No, but they certainly benefit greatly from this support in the same ways.

To further support this claim, I'll state that I started out originally in OpenGL and switched to DirectX in May due to compatibility (especially for pixel shaders) and speed. I do think OpenGL is a better API, but DirectX lets you get closer to the hardware, which I took to our advantage.

Wow... You've taken Weather Defender and copied it quite well!

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the side layer bar and the background image were decided and implemented MONTHS before WD was released. I could send you my screenshots from January/February, but that wouldn't provide any proof since they could easily be forged. If you could use the current product you would see how unequivocally different this is from WeatherDefender, although it would be rude to expect this from you since your are making accusations based on a screenshots alone.

Please criticize specific features so I can improve them, but not the entire program's existence.

Chill... I was teasing you... But I'm serious.. I thought it WAS WD when I saw the grab. You'll have to work that out on your own. ;)

To broaden your sales base....consider some hurricane tracking/chasing modes. Not many of those around that have all around good features. But then again, not nearly as many hurricane chasers...but if you design it for home users....bingo!

Sure, I understand. The actual functionality is far different, even if WD happened to have a similar layer browser system when it came out.

I do plan on having extensive hurricane tracking layers.

Another thing I forgot to mention - I'm looking for a name. The internal name I'm using until I get something permanent is WeatherStudio, although I don't want any problems with these guys.

If someone suggests something I end up using, they get a free copy when it comes out!

I noticed one person kinda brought up what I was thinking with placing SN reports on the map directly. I have had a idea kicking around in my head I wanted to do but I am so busy with my other projects I can't even begin to do...

I would like to see a way to drop markers on the map, both private for my use and public for others to see. I have always wanted to make a note on the map like "Avoid this road it washes out easily" or "Great Tacos" or even "Great vantage point for looking east"

If someone just wants to take that and run with it GREAT but a way to create placefiles on the fly with helpful information for yourself and fellow chasers would be really cool.

As the 2010 season approaches, I was curious if the software has been completed and/or is available for trial / purchase?

what about a chat room where all the users who own the program can chat with each other? will this program have somthing similar to that? Maby even something where users can load real time still images to the program of their reports. Is any of this possible? Also gps of other chasers who own the program.
