My new setup "Show and Tell" *PICS warning

fplowman

Ok we all know that it takes awhile to obtain nice equipment. So I wanted to post a little "show and tell" here. To many of you folks chasing out there you have already had all the wizbang equipment for years.

I have been chasing naked as they say with just a map and a weather radio for a couple of years. I have accumulated some really nice equipment and since there are no storms out I thought I would show some of it off for fun.

I bought a magnetic scanner antenna from Radio Shack. It seems to work well no issues as of yet. I guess the true test will be a 70 mile an hour wind while driving 50 mile an hour. lol

I have it plugged into my Uniden hand scanner where I get most frequencies including NWS radio.

Gotta love that new Jotto Desk. Bought it from Hank Baker on the board here. He got me a really great deal and beat everyone elses price by $ 40 - 50. He delivered timely and was easy to work with.

Hope you guys enjoyed my show and tell.

Nice ride Fred. The only thing I'd change is the coax placement on the antenna. First Semi to blow by is going to take it off for you and bounce it on the ground with that much coax hanging out.

I'd try to figure a way to run it through the trunk. No drilling, just a shorter leash. That magnet on the RS antanna is a toy and routinely blown off by any sudden gust over about 80-85 mph.

I hear ya. I was un impressed by the magnets strength. I can foresee that happening when you bring up that scenario. Ill work on that tommorrow. Thanks John for the heads up ;)

I shopped for one of those. The lip kind. ill check out your website.

My original intent was to just be able to remove the antenna anytime when im not chasing. But from reports I guess no one is having luck keeping their antennas on their car.

I have driven a few hundred miles and one chase with this antenna.. no issues yet. But i believe what you guys are saying. Im always checking it in the rearview cause i wasnt very trusting of the magnet.
Thanks

Fred

For a RS antenna, those work very well. Great for NWR and even works good with 2M radios.

route teh coax through the back seat and out between the back glass and the trunk lid. the trunk's gasket closing on teh coax will do a decent job of keeping the antenna intact.

I fixed it like I should by routing it through the trunk and seat. Im sure it will work fine now.. Although Ill always have a scanner antenna on my car :?

I've got one of those Radio Shack Scanner antennas, while it seems to work well.
I have never had any trouble with it falling of or loosing it.

The Antenna seems rather 'flimsy' though.
It is in the middle of my roof, and it has gotten bent back pretty far.
I'm thinking about replacing it with something else. Since it looks ridiculous like that.

oh

and pretty nice ride :D
