• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Anyone have a good program for converting from .mov files to wmv or mpg? Unfortunately my digital camera only publishes in .mov, and the software I have doesn't support .mov:mad:

I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum v8.0 and it will open *.mov files. Just guessing here, but your camera probably records in mpeg4 format. Any software package that can encode in mpeg4 should include the proper codecs. Just read the specs carefully...some of the cheaper packages may not include MP4 capability.

At around $120, Vegas Platinum is cheaper than a Mac!

I found that Premier Elements didn't read my newest .mov format coming off a Canon Powershot camera. It would read other .mov formats though. My solution was to convert them to another format using the free 'mencoder' utility on Linux. I don't know if there is a Windows version or not.

Good day,

Use Quicktime Pro (latest version) from Apple's site.

I have Quicktime Pro - This is about $30 (it's not the player, but the "unlocked" upgrade you buy online).

If you have Quicktime and dowload it, the "export" feature is locked. The $30 upgrade to Pro gives you a key and you can export.

The Export function has lots or formats, even DV AVI at 16:9 or 4:3 customizable. Just open the .MOV file, choose "export" and choose your format!

Hope this helps...

I would second what Chris said. QuickTime Pro is one of the best transcoders around, even for going between some proprietary formats (WMV) and open formats (H.264, etc.)

My guess is the new Canon camera uses AVCHD, or some other derivative of H.264.
