Motorola RAXR V3a Disabled Antenna

Hey have any of you heard that if you use external antennas with certain phones (in this case the Motorola RAZR V3a) it will permanently disable the internal antenna? This sounds bizarre to me. Not sure how this could actually take place without a firmware change. If this is true you should definitely be careful what you do with your chase phone setup.

Interesting, that explains 2 of the 5 phones I went through in September 2007.

This happened to me, it actually pushes a metal connection permanently away inside the phone. I had to carry my antenna around after that to get any kind of signal. Be very careful before you plug one in!

Wow!! So, it is true eh? I've heard it may only be the V3a. I think the Razr V3c may not have that problem. Why do you suppose they would make these things like this? It is terrible!!

This has happened to my Dad and I thought he was crazy. I was thinking of possibly going the Alltel Razr route. Seems like Mike H is using this set up - or others on Alltel - right? Mike and others have you had this problem or is there a RAZR that doesn't have this issue?

According to Wilson Electronics, http://www.wilsonelectronics.com/Adapters.php?ID=12 , the V3M and V3x are the only ones affected. I had a V3M for about 2 days and as soon as I got an email back from Wilson telling me I would have to carry my "alien" antenna around as soon as I pugged it in, I returned it.

If this scares you you can use a wireless amplifier or the induction adapter Cyfre develop for the Iphone actually works really well on the Razrs

You just mount over the interior antenna on the razr

By the way Wilson does not make an adapter for the A , M or XX. Cyfre actually make different adapters for these phone . that is where alot of the problem comes from , They use the one size fits all theory

Most Razrs use an IAC036 , the A & M use an IAC063 and the XX uses an IAC069

I loved my V3xx when I first got it, and now I think its a complete POS. I wish I would have known about this problem sooner, as I just replaced mine because of the reception problems, and I wouldn't have gotten another one had I known. Luckily I haven't plugged it into the external antenna yet. Is there an external antenna you can get that stays attached and fits nicely in your pocket?

The induction adapter I referred to attaches with Velcro , so when not in use . You just remove it.
