MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, offers free online courses in atmospheric sciences. I thought it would be good to go over some of these free courses here as we approach the upswing of severe season 2010. These courses generally include lecture notes, projects and examples, Image Galleries, Selected lecture notes, Online textbooks, Assignments and solutions, Exams and solutions and Multimedia content.
Here is the link to the free open course materials. Simply click here.
Courses I have found of interest are:
Applications of Continuum Mechanics to Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences
Special Topics in Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences: The Environment of the Earth's Surface
Weather and Climate Laboratory
Atmospheric and Ocean Circulations
Learning is always a beneficial thing to do in downtime and when it comes to our atmosphere, the more you know the better you'll go - especially as a storm chaser. For some of you, these links might come in handy.
For those of you interested in many subjects beyond our atmosphere, the open source learning has many, many courses on diverse subjects that might be compatible with your interests.
Enjoy.
