Microsoft Streets and Trips Discontinued

I have the 2013 version so that should at least be good for a couple more seasons.
Same here Adam, but I'm starting to come around to the idea of using nothing but the Roads Shapefile in GR3, especially with switching over to a tablet this season.

Mapping software has it's benefits, but as I've said before the roads in GR3 is the only way to go while actually chasing.

If it wasn't so cumbersome, Google Maps would be good in offline mode. I've been considering the thought of getting a 2-in-1 tablet/laptop this year. So then I'd probably go the way of Andy and Robert.

You can't even buy a serial number for 2013 anymore, which sucks because I actually wanted to purchase it. I've found a version that doesn't require a serial, so that will work for now. I'm going to have a hard time giving up S&T.

I got in on the 2013 S&T just before they discontinued it. I figure it will be good for quite a while, but I too am going with shapefiles in GR3 but was planning on using it as an alternative. With Andy's input it sounds like it can be depended on for real time use so I may try using it by itself for a couple of chases and getting away from the mapping software all together because I can't see a real decent online alternative down the road. Google Maps isn't detailed enough for me as far as small town names and some minor roads, and I always end up going back to S&T to see those.

Why not Street Atlas?

The thing that really annoys me about Google Maps is the fact that you can't see counties. That is kind of important, IMO

I've tried the shapefiles before but they bogged down GR3 so much I couldn't stand using them. Maybe now that I have a more powerful machine its an option again. I also wasnt a fan of how cluttered the radar screen looked, not to mention the frequent zooming. I suppose I can give that a second chance. I was never a fan of the Street Atlas interface, but at some point I will have to learn to use something new, so that is definitely another option.

If all else fails, theres always the trusty EZ finders and paper maps ;)

for anyone that has used place files for the road maps in GR. How does your system perform? Much like Adam had stated, the last time I had used them, even if I only loaded one state's worth of place files, GR was extremely slow.
I'd be interested in some feedback!
Thanks

Both of the last two Core i7 laptops I've owned had (have) no trouble at all handling it. Texas takes a while to load but that's it. Both with mobile nvidia GPU's....nothing fancy there.
