Before Joplin in 2011, the Flint Beecher tornado ranks as the single deadliest in our country (and in the state of Michigan) since the Tri-State tornado of 1925. On June 8, 1953, the EF5 tornado struck the northern Flint community -- killing 116 and injuring 844 along its path.
To commemorate the event and promote severe weather awareness, the pages attached to the site listed below describe some of the events of that day, advances in the science of tornado prediction, survivor stories, and various news accounts of the event.

Lisa lost a grandmother and an aunt (neither of whom she ever know, having been born thirteen years later) in the Flint-Beecher tornado. Truly a horrible storm. And of course, the following day was the Worcester, MA, tornado.
