Looking for Data Plan Options

I would go with alltel before Verizion takes over . They are one the the last company's out there that let you use your plan minutes for data and do not have a cap. I have never had any issues with them and I use them along with AT&T for data. If you are in a 3G area I would go with AT&T for faster upload speeds. I get 500 to 900 up on my data card and very good latency. Remember that with AT&T different devices have different data rights so phones and PDA's will not see the same speeds that a data card will see.

Yup! Additionally, if you get a voice plan with Alltel, you can get a $20 a month internet tethering option where you just plug your phone into your laptop.

Ryan they raised that to $30 but it's still one of the best options out there

Alltel has already raised it to $30 a few months back, it was previously $25 throughout this past chase season. I used it nearly continuously through the latter half of May and into June so I know I was well over 5 GB. Never heard anything from them, just charged me the $25 for the tethering and continued on. The nice thing about Alltel tethering option is that they do pro-rate the charges, meaning if you only turn it on for one week and then have it off for the remainder of the month you are only charged for that one week! I don't see any data plan that can beat that if you want to go with the tethering option...

Shoot! Well, that'll be a pain in the butt. The Verizon merger is already 'helping' the customer, it seems.

Our spotter group is moving into video streaming so I stopped by the Alltel store yesterday to verify my data plan... NO LIMIT, $30.00 a month with off and on privileges as described above.

Let the video stream...

I just looked into what it would take to switch to Alltel (since Sprint is getting nasty about their 5GB/300MB Roaming limits) and the fine print on their pure data plan does say video streaming is not allowed (so, I wouldn't be surprised that the tethering plan has the same limitation). Now, I'm not sure if they would enforce it (but, Sprint did not have any limits when I signed up and did not enforce the limit for a while once it was instituted) but, something to keep in mind.

I doubt they're currently enforcing anything at all in regards to data, though that could change real quick after the merger. I upload a tremendous amount at data each month and download quite a bit as well -- I'd break the Sprint 5GB cap in less than a week, easy. I've done this for more than a year now, and Alltel has never said peep. I'm using a smartphone tethered to a laptop.

The problem I have is that Altell isn't available out here in Denver! I'd be all over them if I could!

I was in Colorado about a year ago, looking not chasing, and had no problems connecting through Alltel.

We had a chaser in Austin that had to drive sixty miles into our area to get to an Alltel store, but had no problem signing up. Austin has good Alltel coverage and I have no idea why they don't have a storefront there... Something to keep the lawyers happy I guess...

Really?...I went and looked at there coverage maps....looks like they are now.

I punch up my zip code on the Alltel site and it doesn't give me any options (80234).

Maybe I'll just call...

I tried looking for you as well, they have coverage in the area but no stores by the looks of things. Once the merger occurs early next year then maybe you can get Alltel? I know you saw it in action when you were out with me this year, I really haven't found too many spots where it really struggles to come in with decent service.
