Does anyone know a web source that shows lightning data divided into positive and negative strokes? It would be fun to armchair chase and use the lightning data as a proxy for severe weather. I've recently read several papers that demonstrate positive ground flashes dominate storms with mesocyclones, large hail, and or tornadoes, however, there seems to be a regional bias based on theta-e values and storm location relative to the main moisture axis. If anyone's interested, there's several AMS papers that are really interesting reads. Look for names like MacGorman, Rutledge, Williams, and Rust, who seem to specialize in lightning.
