We need a lightbar thread. Seems like it has been too long.

who has em, who doesn't, and who doesn't care.

Well here we go. i have a green and white arrowstick in my back window. i feel a lot safer with it. it's my way of saying "hey, i'm here. don't hit me" to people who aren't aware of the situation. i don't see a problem with it, and neither do any of the LEOs that i have talked to. this will be a fun thread.

what is a light bar?

lights that scroll across your window?

i dont have one, but my freind has a long blue neon light in the back of his z71...looks pretty nice...if i ever decided to get a "lightbar" i would probably get something similar to that one...

going downhill fast...

a lightbar is a warning light used by police, fire, EMS, and any other personnel that are on and off the road and need to warn other drivers that they are there.

I am just curious Mike, why green and white? Green is traditionally the color for GO (not something I would want when I am trying to warn AWAY from me). Flashing white light to the rear I am pretty sure is illegal in most if not all states, not to mention more likely to blind someone. Why not just amber?

David,

In AR, Green lights are typically reserved for emergency management. I used to be a part of this and it was fairly standard in the western part of the state.

hey if it works, if somone was driving down the road and saw that then they will slow down no matter what.

Green is traditionally used for Incident Command.

I personally just made a significant purchase of amber lights that I will be installing this winter in addition to my current ones of 12 amber strobes. This should put me at about 47 amber lights which should be certain to piss off even the most laid back of storm chasers.

LOL.

I have an amber strobe that I use.

I will be more than happy to let other newer members hash this one out. I think I might enjoy sidelining this one a bit. :D

David,
You have the alternator and triple bat set up for that rig?

Green lights are generally accepted as Safety Vehicle, hence the green cross and some of the local disaster response teams. Emergency Management falls into this area. Other places use the green lights for other things, but they fall into the safety arena. They are not used in emergency vehicles (Red and Blue being those designations) nor are they used for warning or notification (Amber covering those applications). Purple is generally used for funeral processions and white is generally used as a filler for all of the above categories.

Almost all states have some sort of regulation or law concerning the use of lights on a vehicle (other than headlight, brakes lights, turn signals) so it's always best to consult with your local DMV BEFORE going all out.

So much for sidelining.....
