I monitored the weather situation after dark from here in Castle Rock, and saw an incredible supercell with with a consistent 76+ DBZ core on it tracking to the southeast near Limon. This morning I wake to find reports of a large, multi-vortex tornado from the storm near Limon with uprooted trees and destroyed structures. It is possible that it was only one tornado which lasted for several hours.

Does anybody have any experience with this storm? Any reports? This sounds like a significant and potentially rare kind of situation for the area but I wonder if anyone actually has any footage because of the fact that is was after dark. It'd be great to hear from the community!

I was up late watching the same storm and for about 30 minutes, it started to look like the North Carolina "Tornadocane" on the radar. I am suprised there hasn't been anything about it, anywhere. So i pray it that it wasn't as damaging as i looked. There were reports in Hugo of 111 Mph winds and damage, with injuries. Here's hoping it wasn't as catastrophic as it looked!

We tried to observe this tornado from I-70 but due to the terrain, you needed to be real close. We had to turn back east when there were reports that I-70 was closed in both directions due to hail or accidents. (?). The structure on the earlier storms was impressive, but only this beast survived. We have cool upslope / outflow in Burlington ATM, but I would not be surprised to see a similar set-up later today along any boundaries. In fact, could be more interesting today.

Thanks for the responses. Went to bed thinking the worst and praying for the best. It indeed looked like a beast on the radar screen.

I witnessed this supercell in Genoa, CO, thinking I had a safe distance from it there. I could see the vault and a rapidly forming wall cloud from the I-70 overpass. Inflow winds must have reached 50 m.p.h. Continuous sheet lightning. I next tried to drive north on a dirt road, but I nearly got stuck and visibility was zero with wind-driven rain and 1.25" hail. The hailstorm lasted over 15 minutes. I lost a signal light cover, a temporary headlight cover, and received several large cracks in a previously damaged windshield. Afterward I could see amazing CC lightning through the wind and hail fog. Hail was piled up to 12 inches against buildings in downtown Genoa. Freaky night. Some how got it all on video too!

I've started a reports thread here. We were on the west side of Limon and can confirm the tornado. Video was impossible, but I have some long-exposure shots that show the vortices just north of town. Not at all fun, as we were sure Limon was going to get wrecked. So thankful that didn't happen.

The only thing I will add is, the outflow from this beast backed into CO Spgs last night like crazy. I work evenings and had no idea of the storms by Limon, and when I got off work and opened the door to go out to my car, I got a blast of very moist easterly wind. I was shocked and knew something was up, and when i got home and looked at the radar, I was stunned.
