• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Laptop mounts for vehicles?

I have my own 'homemade' type one, not to bad and can be fairly versatile and sturdy. I have pictures of it up on my gallery pages:

It'll only cost you around $20-$30 depending how many bends and things you put in it. Plus it can take a good amount of time in designing the way you want, but hey that is the fun in doing stuff yourself!

thanks i checked out that site, looks like im gonna get one off there thanks Jody:D

As far as I was able to tell, this is the cheapest option for a decent stand. I got the bronze edition. It's a simple stand which telescopes some and will swivel a bit. Enough to hold my laptop steady in the truck within reach, but with very few bells and whistles.

A few years ago we bought a Jotto Desk for our chase vehicle. It's worked great. Here's a picture of it.

I love the Jotto desk, my chase partner has one in his chase vehicle. With unexpectedly having to replace a chase vehicle on the verge the season and upgrading some other stuff, I had to be judicious about where the money went on equipment. In the end I am very happy with what I got. $50 to $200+ was a pretty significant leap to go to a Jotto and I am not entirely sure I would have gained $150+ worth of value there.

In preparation for this year storm chasing season, I purchased a laptop mount for my MiniVan.

I purchased it from an eBay seller. The Laptop mount can be purchased with the Buy it Now button for 109$.

I haven't installed it yet since I need to clean the van first.. we still have some snow here so I want to make a nice spring cleaning before installation but my impressions on the unit is very high. It's well constructed, very sturdy. It actually uses a photo head, so you just need to take the laptop plate off and there you go, you have an in car pod for holding your camera or video camera.

Take a look into it, it's worth it!

I just placed an order for a Jotto desk. Will post a mini review once I get it installed

Am looking forward to your report. Don't forget the pictures. Am also thinking of getting a Jotto desk. Sure, it's expensive, but in the end, the stability and security it gives your laptop is probably priceless.

found this in storage at my job site seems like it will work for a mount. add some padding and straps. its big enough to place a mount for my cb and other stuff under it.

actually im going to get a cooling pad for mine tonight. Im going to place foam padding on the mount and strap it in. and then thought well how to circulate the air? seems to be the best idea to keep it from overheating.

I'm not sure.....I'm actually going to go meet the guy that built David Drummond's laptop and get the skinny on his design and see if he has any cooling tips when I pick my custom built mount up on Thursday. He only lives a few miles down the road so I figured I would drive a little over an hour to get it for the weekend. I may try some kind of cooling pad.

you think with any padding it will overheat faster? i was using it on a throw pillow and it seemed hotter, then i threw the pillow. saw some cooling pads at wally world for about 20 - 30 dollars

Check slickdeals.net you can find those cooling pads for $10 or less every couple of weeks.

The last couple of years, I've run my wife's Dell Inspriron 1100 with out a cooling pad. That was inside a Ford Ranger with no A/C. Never needed cooling. It did pretty well except it was pretty slow.

Now I have my own Laptop and still don't plan to use a cooling pad. I thought about it and decided if I really do need one, then I can add it in later.

I haven't noted mine getting hot. The Sprint data card gets pretty warm, but since it sits just about in front of an A/C vent I can direct that on it.
