It's not the hurricane you have to worry about

Ya know, some friends of mine used to absolutely adore Jamaica. They went there for vacation 4 or 5 years in a row. They even got vanity plates that said "IRIE", which has something to do with Jamaica.

Then, a couple years ago, they just stopped going. I asked them why, and the answer they gave was...... cryptic. Hmmmm.

Being in another nation and being a victim is bad. Trusting the police in many nations is not any better. After talking with friends who deployed to New Orleans for Katrina both as law enforcement and military I am convinced you need to be prepared for self defense.

I am sure the rate of firearm carrying suspects is much higher in a large U.S. city and is something anyone going into an area that will have a major disaster should consider. When people who have deployed to Iraq and Afganistan say it was dangerous patrolling in NO there is no question we have to think about our safety. Glad it was not worse for you...not going into the park was a wise decision.

George, I'm so sorry this happened to ya'll, but am very thankful you are okay. That's was deciding factor of why I decided not to chase Dean either in the Yucatan or near Tuxpan (as badly as I wanted too); concerns about my safely from possible chaos occurring after the storm (looting/ rioting/ social unrest, etc).
