Iphone to come to Verizon in 2010?

Yeah this is inevitable. Despite the latest VZW ads for their new Droid trashing the iPhone, both companies stand too much money to lose if the iPhone doesn't come to VZW. It's a win-win for both. It is unclear the specific date that the ATT exclusive ends with Apple, but we know it's 2010 sometime. Also throw in the fact that VZW is leaps and bounds ahead of ATT in their 4G (aka LTE) network development and this is a no brainer. My guess would be about this time next year we'll finally see an iPhone for other networks. Also this doesn't mean that the iPhone will be leaving ATT either. The Droid being a cutting edge device finally gives VZW a serious competitor to the iPhone which will only fuel Apple's need to get their phone on more networks. I would guess the iPhone will be available for Sprint next year as well. At this point I think anyone on ATT who wants an iPhone, has one and Apple is finally starting to see their numbers level off. What to do next? Expand to other carriers of course. I bailed on Verizon to get an iPhone when they launched and couldn't take that awful ATT coverage (at least here in CO. It's better in other areas). I went back to VZW and sacrificed a "cool" phone for the better network. Next year we'll get the cool phone AND the better network. Sign me up!

I currently have it for AT&t and i still love it after a year, now thats rare to still pretty much love a phone as much as the day you got it, at least for me. I wonder if i'll be able to keep my iphone and just sign up with VZW and just put the new memory card into it, hmmm. I hope this is the case that way i would not have to buy a whole new iphone. I was actually starting to wonder when someone else would pick up on the iphone and get it, it was only a matter of time with how popular it really is.

Negative unfortunately...ATT is a GSM carrier which uses sim cards. Verizon at the moment is CDMA which uses ESN's (electronic serial number). The hardware is completely different therefore needing a new phone. What Verizon's 4G phones will use I'm not sure. My current blackberry uses an ESN domestically but has a sim card in it should I travel abroad where GSM carriers are only available. Maybe the iPhone next year will be one of these hybrid type devices?

Has anyone else heard about this yet? If this is true, I may be makin a switch to Verizon come December of 2010.

From what I've been hearing, Apple is going to be coming out with a different model just for Verizon. Some of the rumors claim that it will be a mini iPhone. Others claim that the new Apple Tablet will be on Verizon.

I doubt Apple will allow both AT&T and Verizon to have the same phone. They need to appease AT&T somehow and I think that's be offering something different on the other side of the fence.

They need to switch to Verizon now! Always wanted an iPhone but AT&T's lack of coverage is not chaser-friendly.

I should check why exactly, but I noticed AAPL stock went up a bit the other day. Back at it's all time high levels...I'd be ready to cash out. About 100% gain from earlier in the year. I suspect if the announcement is nearly official or was official, not likely to go up more unless Apple has some other tech updates (like it's own netbook?) to further the price.

I won't leave Verizon, since I'm not on a contract, and pay only $35 a month for service. I'd welcome some sort of iPhone system, if it was similar to the iPhone. But then again I don't need any of the features of a smart phone either.

Verizon is superior network wise on the east coast, where they pretty much monopolize the market here in DC.

The Apple Tablet is the device I'm really looking forward to and could be a huge help in the chaser aspect. I know Steve Jobs has been personally looking over this project similar to what he did with the iPhone when it was in development, so expect something pretty big when it comes out. I've heard rumors of Verizon getting the deal to handle the tablets wireless data but I've also heard it's going to ATT. So who knows on that end but I bet its going to be pretty damn impressive! The other thing that concerns me on it though is that there is still no decent radar (GR3 equivalent) programs for Mac. If this tablet comes out and is running on 4G or Wimax or whatever, how valuable would that be if there were still no radar programs to run on it?

Scott, just an FYI thing here. They do have an iphone app called Radar Scope, and while it isnt as great as GR3, it comes pretty darn close. It is available as an app for $10 and their most current update has Spotter Network integrated in with it. Just thought I would throw that out there.

That's true! I guess I'm just still frustrated that no one has stepped up and made a really nice radar program native to Mac OS. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had the know how...That's for another thread though :D

To add to this thread, I did find a nice little read here that has some pics of a potential, smaller screen iPhone. This would certainly support the idea that VZW's model would be different and possibly an "iPhone Lite" or whatever you want to call it. Looks as though that Qualcomm processor could work on any network also supporting the idea of a hybrid type device. Cool! 2010 is finally starting to look like carriers are going to get rid of these ridiculous exclusives. Anyway, I could write about wireless for the next 50 hours, so I'll stop for now!

And now that people are writing apps for the iPhone (which for all intensive purposes IS Mac OS X) it should be easy to do this.

Wednesday, Apple are making a 'big announcement' which will most certainly be about their iTablet/iPad/iWhatever BUT many people are speculating that the iPhone coming to Verizon will be announced as well. So all the Verizon folks that have felt neglected should definitely keep their ears open Wednesday. Of course then again, they could just announce a new line of colors on their Nano's. I have a good feeling about this one though!
