• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

I just stumbled onto a new image based search engine that might be useful for some of our members who grow tired of finding their photos posted/copied without authorization or attribution: TinEye

I just recently had to set a relative straight about how different supercell thunderstorms and a hurricane look like. The relative passed on the chain email claiming that Mike H.'s photos of supercell thunderstorms in the plains were actually pictures of a certain hurricane that devastated the gulf coast a few years ago (gag).

I know that we don't all sell our photos, but we do like to get the credit for pointing the lens in the right direction at the right time, so I thought I would pass the info along.

I did some testing and I am pretty impressed with the results. You can find a write about it on here on ArsTechnica

They are interesting, but I have had mixed results so far. I signed up for their beta quite some time ago. It is very cool that you can install the little IE helper. With it, you can right click on any image and check it in Tin Eye. They don't seem to yet have a very big index, but it is increasing all the time. I've searched against a number of my images that I know are in quite a few places, but I don't get many hits on them. If they can increase their index size, it will be an excellent service.

They also have a Firefox plug-in that does the same thing. This search engine is not bad but needs to have several more thousand images indexed to be more reliable. It is a great idea!

I tried it with a few images I have spattered around the net with no results. Could be because like they say, the index is small? Wonder if the common meta tag <meta name="robots" content="none"> is canceling the search? Neat concept nonetheless.
