Interesting hail measurement report

At least a Ritz cracker is more accurate than "marble sized." I wonder if it was salted or unsalted? :D Hopefully it was the Ritz Light brand. That would probably do less damage.

It's just as bad as a marble! Is it bite sized, peanut butter filling, or original sized? Tony Perkins asked that and I have to agree!

I remember last year's early outbreak in Arkansas and Tennessee yielded a report of hail the size of "a folger's can" crashing through the roof of a mobile home. I thought that was an unusual comparison, but perhaps that was the nearest object.

A couple weeks ago during the severe weather outbreak on March 23, a report came in from Eddy, NM of quarter to lime sized hail:

2129 200 7 W LOCO HILLS EDDY NM 3282 10410 QUARTER TO LIME SIZED HAIL 6 TO 8 MILES W OF LOCO HILLS. (MAF)

Well you can normally get what most consider wierd reports but to people in that area it makes perfect sense. New Mexico has a large latino population and their drink of choice is Corona's which require a lime for flavoring so everybody knows the size of a lime.

In some areas it may be oranges or apricots or even certain types of beans or nuts.

There must be something about hail reporting in Springfield NWS' county warning area. Ritz cracker this year, and last year we had the hail denting beer cans on the back of a moving motorcycle. Hmmm.

Or it could have been a typo, and they meant to say quarter to "dime" size hail. Although, in this case, since the size was reported as 2", I'm guessing the "lime" sized hail was the correct adjective.

HEH. Good point! I didn't realize Ritz has expanded their cracker line to such wonderful flavors and sizes.
