Imelda is a bit of a sleeper storm that might bring bigger impacts to the US than anything so far this season. Models are in general agreement of rainfall estimates of 15-20 inches around the Houston metro, with officials prepping for water rescues. Model forecast soundings are showing pwats as high as 2.8".

The post-landfall tornado threat with this system is questionable, with no models yet showing much of a dry slot working into Imelda's remnants before it shears apart over north Texas. Still something to keep an eye on in the next few days.

They cancelled all of our schools and classes tomorrow. (Galveston) All the kids get a "rain day". Of course, they always plan a few "hurricane days" into the school semester. I have measured about three inches of rain since this morning. No problems here unless we get it all at once. Houston doesn't take much to flood in the "bowl". My city has huge corkscrew pumps that keep the streams low and expel water into Galveston bay.

"School Cancelled for Thursday: All of the meteorology experts are saying that the worst is yet to come and there could be life-threatening flooding in the morning. Because of the uncertainty, we are not willing to risk the safety of our students and staff and will cancel school on Sept. 19, 2019 "
