Hurricane Ophelia Delays Canadian Rescue Fleet

Geoff Boyle

Just our luck. :?

The joint Navy/Coast Guard fleet that Canada has dispatched to New Orleans has been delayed by the latest hurricane off the coast of Florida. The Fleet, along with over 1000 relief personnel and crucial supplies, disembarked Tuesday from CFB Halifax and was expected to arrive by late Friday or early Saturday. Unfortunatly the Fleet will have to travel the long way around hurricane Ophelia, which could take another couple of days.

35 Canadian Army and Navy divers are already hard at work with the US Navy's 2nd Amphibious Group. They have been tasked with inspecting dikes and clearing waterways.

The fleet has now arrived safely and has begun to help with the relief efforts.
