I had a chance to see Hurricane Dean: Dominica/Jamaica/Mexico, a very nice compilation DVD by hurricane chasers, Mike Theiss, Jim Edds and Jim leonard. There is amazing footage of Hurricane Dean as the storm moves through the Carribbean. The DVD starts with the launch of the Space Shuttle and satellite views from the International Space Station and other satellites of the development and progression of Hurricane Dean. The first footage is from Mike Theiss of flooding and damage from Dominica. The next view is of high winds, water and flying debris from Jim Edds in Kingston, Jamaica. Jim Leonard gives another view of the storm surge and winds from northern Jamaica. There are a series of amazing images of devastation from the Mexican Ground Zero area (Mahahual and El Placer). There is bonus footage of a fire in the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston the day after the hurricane. Although my wife thought that part was a bit too long, I really enjoyed watching the smoke, arrival of the firefighters and fighting the fire. Their response time was quite slow (hopefully due to the recent hurricane).

I am a big fan of hurricane chase DVD with multiple chasers as different viewpoints are shown. This DVD combines the best footage of three very well respected hurricane chasers. I would call it a biography of Hurricane Dean, a rare Cat 5 storm. This is also a nice example of Island Chasing which is a bit different than the usual Florida or Gulf Coast videos. What an adventure!! I definitely recommend buying this DVD.
Total time: 47 minutes
