High Risk CO?

Well, to make you feel a little better Adam, I wasn't chasing SPC outlines that day either, but ended up busting under the same sky as you. My forecast target was at the northern limit of my self-imposed border on this day (due to an evening commitment), and we watched the WY storm from a great distance and on radar from a dirt road near Bennett. Welcome to storm chasing:rolleyes:

Words can not describe how mad I was when I learned the gold was a hundred miles north on my FIRST chase that I had to BEG my dad to go on. But then in the same exact area I saw a tornado touch down in Ft. Morgan on June 13. This year seemed crazy for severe weather in Colorado. Does anybody know what actually happened on that June bust? Why was there no weather?

And Verne, that is nice for me because I live near Castle Rock on the Palmer Divide.

And Connor, I know EVERYTHING about chasing storms. The only places I lack are equipment. I chase with my laptop hooked up to the SPC, SAT, and wunderground radar. I don't know why but I prefer this radar to any other...

I've been following SELS/SPC outlooks for ~25 years, and I'm not aware of any HIGH risks extending back into CO. Maybe something has brushed the eastern border, but that's about it.

3/28/07 was indeed a MDT risk - maybe you're thinking HIGH risk because I did go with a PDS tornado watch for the TX Panhandle (tried to do the same for KS/CO, but literally forgot to push the "PDS" button). That was also an AFWA backup exercise day, so the SPC day shift didn't get to do the outlooks at 1630 or 2000z. Had it been a normal shift, there's a ~50% chance we would have issued a HIGH risk (probably TX Panhandle into SW KS, but not as far W as CO), based on the fact that we did discuss it for a few minutes in the morning.

I don't expect to break the streak anytime soon with us struggling to get 45-55 F dewpoints into TX

Adam, I admire that great sense of humor you display in the last paragraph... :D You know EVERYTHING about chasing storm... :D I admire that, it made me laugh. Wow, I've been chasing 28 years and much of the time I feel I know NOTHING about chasing storms. I can understand your frustration of June 5, but as I'm sure you know, chasing will humble you like nothing else in life will. I'm just telling you the truth --- your cirrus bust on June 5 is just the start of a LONG list of busts. You'll have far more frustrating stories to tell many years from now. At age 17, it's really cool that your dad went out. Hope you thanked him for trying.

As for "risks" as mentioned already, they mean nothing for chasers. High risk days often include storms blitzing along at 50-60 mph, given the wind speeds required to make a "high" risk. Personally, I've seen tornadoes on days with NO risks... It happens. SPC's goals and a chaser's goal are very different.

You know everything about chasing storms? At 17 years old? This is not a slam against your age. Hell, I'm only 18. But in 3 years of chasing (and I mean real chasing, not driving to the middle of an SPC risk and looking at radar), if there's one thing I've learned it's that I will NEVER know everything about chasing. And if you know everything about it, why do you chase with a laptop? I mean, a good chaser can go visual, I would think someone who knows everything there is to know about chasing could tell you where to go just by picking up some sand and watching it blow in the wind!

Now it might seem like I'm being really hard on you, but I'm just saying you have a long way to go, and you need to realize that. I don't know anything about you, so for all I know, you're a hell of a lot better chaser than I am. Or maybe not. But either way, saying you know everything about chasing pretty much invalidates everything else you say IMO.
