• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

HDMI and streaming

On a laptop, that's usually an output for showing HD video on your TV. Only on the highest end units would it possibly be bi-directional. That said, given the ultra-low bitrate you can achieve with your stream (150k-ish), using HDMI as a source would not gain you anything in quality over 1394, USB, or even S-video (and it might even cause you extra headaches given HDMI's native copy protection).

Can you stream video with HDMI?

Just wonder because my new laptop has HDMI

not over the internet you can't. in order to stream hi-def, you would need a hi-def camera, and a broadband connection. you can relay it from your computer to your big screen or projector though via HDMI (if capable)

I think it might be possible to some degree, but only for in-office (home) applications, and yes, you need a serious high speed connection. Think Video Conferencing more than streaming for chases. I should try it with the 7D since it's HDMI and I too have a port on the laptop. I'll try it with ooVoo conferencing first.

I think he's just asking about using the connector since it's there. His laptop probably doesn't have a 1394 port and he's looking to use an existing port rather than buy an adapter card for something else the camera has. I don't think he's actually looking to stream HD, which yes, would be impossible with the bandwidth we have available. But again, the built-in HDMI port on a laptop is almost always going to be an output only. Completely negates the intended purpose.

I have 14days to take it back and Im not sure if I'm happy with it. Just I know what I'm looking for, what is the best port for streaming that gives the best quality picture both streaming and recording to laptop for review latter? I do have an easy cap but I'm waiting to buy a camera to test it out on.

Just get an easy cap device to stream with. More than likely, it's just an output for HDMI - I know mine isn't an input on my Acer Laptop.
