• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

GRLevel3 uses DirectX 9 very heavily, as I understand it. I use Ubuntu and was wanting to see if GRL3 worked. It does with Wine 1.0 .. well somewhat.

I have learned that there is a Wine-Gamer version being worked on that will make games with DirectX work better, which in turn means maybe GRL3 would work better.

Anyone heard of such or tried a beta of Wine-Gamer?

Anyone with tips as to how Linux can work with GRL3?

Thanks,

What issues are you having running GRL3 with WINE? I'm currently using version 1.1.2 and I've not had that many issues at all.

Trying to change the Animation Settings does still crash it, but I'm thinking that's less related to DirectX and more to how WINE handles the saving of those settings.

I did have to set my smooth to 16-bit in order for it to work, but since doing that I've had no problems.

GRLevel3 with Ubuntu problems

I am having:

No memory of settings

Not all things like Track, TVS, etc shows checked on the screen.

I could not get smoothing to run.

I am just trying the version, so it may be that one has to buy to get all the functions, but I want to see if they work.

Animation changes crashes the system.

Probably some more, that I have not found yet.

Thanks,

As for the saving of settings, make sure you're running WINE 1.1.2 and the latest version of GRL3.

The saving of the animation settings has to do with it not being able to write to a certain part of memory.

I'm able to track all things though sometimes it blanks out and you have to turn them off and then back on again to get them back.

For smoothing make sure you set your settings to force 16-bit smoothing and then turn it on, that's what I had to do on my laptop. If it's still not working then it might be that the video driver you're using is not proper. On Ubuntu 8.04 I had to install the restricted Nvidia drivers.

What distro of linux are you trying to get this running on and what kind of video card do you have?
