• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Has anyone noticed that Grlevel3 is really delayed in it's updating? I looked on the Grlevel3 forums and found the following:

From NWS employee Bob Hart:

"GrLevel3 radar products may be delayed in updating this evening as the NWS public servers are currently being overwhelmed."

Seems like the private servers are OK (Allison house).

Thanks
Cory

Sorry...I was hitting F5 a lot...LOL.

Nah, actually it seemed OK today, as I was switching through a number of sites today (couldn't be up in the office today, so only had on PC). I didn't monitor all day though...plummer doing repairs at the house.

I noticed this several times today- Not just a delay, but a couple of different times where I lost radar data for 30+ min. It is happening again right now to me- KLZK, KGWX, KNQA.

Not that I am complaining for free data. Just have not seen this happen so much until recently.

It's only going to get worse as more and more folks purchase radar programs etc
and in turn put more stress on the servers.

It shouldn't - NWS realizes this is an issue and devotes a lot of their resources to it.

Well, they spend some for those calves too so I guess it's all about priorities ;)

This is a BIG reason to spend just a few dollars a month and get a non-NWS server feed. There were no problems with the vendors.

Its all about the numbers. On thursday in the texas panhandle not only was the GR3 feed slow but that was when you could actually stay connected to the cell towers. I would have 3-4 bars but could not connect or even when I did the data was vey slow. It was almost like dial up because there were so many people hitting those towers with data cards for radar or live streams etc.. It overwhelmed the towers which are use to very low usage with them being rural. Even making a cell call was almost impossible. It didnt matter if it was AT&T or Sprint or who ever. I know of 3 people (including me) with different services who had the same issues. Dammit why did I sell my WxWorx...it was a good backup

The more chasers there are and the more technology we use the worse it will become since most of the cell providers arent going to spend millions upgrading their rural nets for high usage that happens only a couple times a year. Lets hope the NWS at least keeps up on demand. Our new toys pull more and more bandwidth year after year.

GRLevel3 has completely failed to update any radar site in the southeast for at least the last 70 minutes. Looks like it will be Wunderground for today.

RadarScope data feed

RadarScope users: Please switch over to our private data feed. Tap the info button on far right of the toolbar, then tap "Settings", "Data Provider", and "iMapWeather".

If you're using RadarScope for iPhone/iPad or know someone who is, please pass it along.

Thanks,

It shouldn't, but it does. The NWS just put on-line a new server farm over
the past two years. But its not enough. It will happen during most
outbreaks of severe weather. Too many people making use of the free source.

Like rDale and others have said, go with a third party supplier for your
radar data.

I don't know why I haven't done it sooner, but I switched over to Allisonhouse last night and haven't had any more problems with the delay of data.

I've been wondering the same thing. I've been using the public NWS servers for as long as I've had GR3, until about 3 weeks ago, when I said screw it and subscribed and switched to AllisonHouse. So glad I made that decision yesterday while watching the storms on radar and reading about the delays and issues people were having with the public NWS servers.
