Greensburg: Storm Chaser Appreciation

Stacy Barnes, the Convention & Tourism Director for Greensburg wanted me to tell everyone that they really appreciate what chasers do. So, they have set up a program for chasers with a welcome packet, a ticket to the Big Well Museum (which is terrific) and other goodies.

Just go to the Big Well Museum, tell them you are a storm chaser, and they will take it from there.

While you are in town, consider spending some money filling up with gas, having a meal at one of the restaurants, etc., which is the most effective way to help them continue their recovery.

Awesome Mike! Thank you so much for your heads-up. I am in awe of their commitment to a "green" recovery and building traditional styled homes to withstand up to 205 MPH winds.

I just now saw this thread. I think I visit Greensburg twice a year. I'll have to take this offer up whenever I go back. Something about that town that makes me visit. I guess it's just conveniently located for me.

I just now saw this thread too. This would be a refreshing change, as the last time we were in Greensburg and visited the well we were met with a less-than-favorable reception (understandably).

*I should add this was 2008, and the tornado tragedy was still very fresh in the minds of those folks. The lady wasn't rude, but she let us know she wasn't happy we were there, because of why we were there.

Interestingly enough, I felt the same way. One time while waiting for initiation at that grocery store (Dillon's I think) and an elderly lady walked past us. She asked "are you gentlemen storm chasers". We say "yes ma'am, stay weather aware today" or something along those lines. She responded with "I hope this God forsaken town get's wiped off the effing map". We were kind of in shock, and she just walked away.

I've always liked Greensburg - one of the coolest little towns in the heartland. I'll definitely go out of my way to take advantage of this.
