This will certainly be a huge technological advancement for atmospheric research and weather forecasting. The total cost of the GOES-R project is estimated to be over $10 billion.

They launched it at 6:42 ET, the very end of the launch window. There were a couple problems with the launch vehicle and a possible boat downrange.

Better safe than sorry.

It's not known where it's going. That won't be determined until it's closer to "go time".
