I've seen the first images from the new GOES-16 satellite and am pretty excited to start using it. 4X clarity and a 5 minute refresh is going to be huge, but I can't seem to find out when it will be available. Does anyone know if it will be available for this chase season or of other capabilities it has?goes16satell.jpg

From what I have heard, GOES-16 data/imagery will not be available publicly until either the summer or fall of 2017, so no. I believe operational mets will be given access to it for official use by the time spring rolls around, though. Might have to double check on that.

We're going to start seeing post-event loops and such starting in March-ish. We may be able to get some off and on real time imagery by July or so. As Jeff eluded to, consistent real-time imagery will not be available until late 2017 with full operations at it's new home until early 2018.

realearth.ssec.wisc.edu has images from Goes-16 as well, but they are all out of order and don't seem to make a lot of sense. I know you can see IR, WV and a Color-Coded-WV or Infared? Not one hundred percent sure though which they are.

What do you mean "out of order"? They are the only ones that have a full feed of the US and both meso sectors that I can find.

Same. They are not labeled like the rest of the stuff though you can select under the products selection menu. They use a abbreviation. Maybe you understand it, I just don't. I like Real Earth's feed though, it is really nice.

FD = Full Disk. US = US. M1 = Mesoscale 1 sector, M2 = Mesoscale 2 sector.

The ## is the band number. G means colorized.

Is it just me or is the alissonhouse page super laggy? Mind you I have a pretty serious laptop and fast internet...would be great to reference in the field
