This is a first! The old GOES-EAST (13) satellite moved to over the Indian Ocean and has been converted to an IR-only weather satellite for DOD.

That's a good way to repurpose old equipment, rather than DOD buying their own versions and spending who knows how much money to send it up into orbit. I'm all for repurposing equipment if it still works.

I don't see any indication in the releases - is there much international DOD satellite data on there already?
