You need to install VMWare Player and then set up Centos in it, then download the tar, the extract and build from source, then develop scripts to download the data.

Or http://skywatch.org/gempak.html and save all the work and hassle ;)

Yep, Rob is correct!

Once you install VMWare, I recommend CENTOS as well. IF you follow UNIDATA's install instructions, it should go through very smoothly.
Also, once you get it installed, you have to get data manually. Rob sells scripts on his website, but I also know there are a few free scripts floating around the internet.

In mine? I'd say about 20. ENough to get all the models, surface obs, radar snaps, satellite maps, upper air soundings, warning boxes, profilers, and bouys that I can find.

How hard is it to script. Ive never done it before do you think i could do it?

It took me a few years to really get things up and to the point where I am comfortable with them... Depends on your Linux background though - I was coming with no background back in the day when Google was no help.

Ya this is actually the first time using Linux so i think it might take me awhile.
Thanks,

Hi, Again! Centos isn't working that well for me. Do you guys recommend any other Operating system.
Thanks

No, CentOS is the easiest to use and most stable. GEMPAK was written specifically for it (well, RedHat Enterprise but that is very expensive and is the same as CentOS operationally.)

I'll be honest here, installing CentOS is the easiest part of the process. Building/configuring GEMPAK can be a chore since the documentation is kind of weak, and then you're pretty much on your own when it comes to the scripts to get data. I'm stubborn, know computers well, and I'm still considering paying for the scripts.
