• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Just curious if anyone has used one, and how they liked it.
I currently have one, and so far like the abilities of the camera for the money.

Any tricks for shooting with this particular camera...

Been playing around with it, and have gotten some good results, but curious if anyone else has had success with it in a storm situation...

Thanks!
Mick Shane

This looks identical to the point-and-shoot I bought back in 2007 (the S700), at least in the features and controls. Looks like the chip was upgraded to 10MP and 720p video added, most everything else stayed the same. I only used my S700 for one season, and it did OK - but in low light (most storm environments) it wasn't very useful handheld or on auto mode (like most point-and-shoots). Put it on a tripod and in manual exposure mode it does OK. The shutter only maxes out at 4 seconds, which means it can catch lightning stills with some difficulty. If this new model is anything like mine, there is a 7 second processing time between the 4 second exposures.

The only tornado I tried shooting with it was Greensburg on 4-second exposures, but nothing came out.

I still keep my S700 as a standby camera, but haven't actually used it since I bought my DSLR.

Thanks Dan... I agree the auto mode sucks, but they all do... I tend to lean to the manual or ap setting.... The big thing I have seen with this one so far is the exposure seems to be a little off with the histogram. Far right exposures actually end up blown out and a bit fuzzy. An unsharp mask tends to bring some back to the shot, but in the end it doesnt seem to be as good as it should be sometimes...

Thanks though Dan for sharing your experiance, it helps me to know what to set my expectations at in regards to quality. I wanted to get a little better, but I was injured on the railroad last year and have been off, and will be chasing on a very limited budget this year... So this was the camera I ended up with.... :)
